In 1974, Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins were both members of Genesis, one of the most innovative and influential progressive rock bands of the time. That year, Genesis released The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, an ambitious and complex concept album considered one of the masterpieces of the genre.

Peter Gabriel, the frontman, was known for his unique theatricality on stage, characterized by elaborate costumes and dramatic performances that added a narrative depth to their concerts. His emotive voice and stage presence were the cornerstone of Genesis's style during that period.
Phil Collins, initially just the band’s drummer, already stood out for his virtuosity and his ability to blend power and complexity into his rhythmic arrangements. Although he was not yet the lead vocalist, he would go on to play an increasingly central role after Gabriel’s departure in 1975.
The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway marked a pivotal moment for Genesis, with Gabriel writing most of the lyrics, inspired by themes of identity, transformation, and surrealism. This album would be Gabriel’s last as a member of the group, but it remains a testament to the creativity and collaboration between these two great musicians.
