You don’t have to talk to anyone.
You can be rude AF and I guarantee those deli workers will not talk to you beyond hello and goodbye if you are.
But your service will go down commensurately.
You should try to flip this for yourself. See what you can get out of having these workers intermediating your deli experience. Be that samples, recommendations, some goodies chucked in…
They’re not going away tomorrow, you’re still going to have to deal with them whether you like it or not, so why not at least try to get something from your interaction with them?
