I never said Nostr needs Vertex. But Nostr needs ways to fight spam, and Vertex is one that doesn't require monetisation.
PoW (as is) is never going to work because of the massive asymmetry between a phone vs an ASIC.
Payments are a great way to fight spam and monetize, but many businesses models require indirect/delayed monetisation. This is where Vertex has its place.
Finally, we just do math, we aren't arbiters nor strive to be. The standard is open, and anyone can run equivalent DVMs and compete.
