that's the norm in turkey and much of eastern europe outside the big cities, and much of rural russia too, from the west all the way across the asiatic siberian north
i've played a lot of post apoc games set in russia and ukraine and the number of times you see these, and not crapper style white ceramic things, i mean, they are the norm, it's either the ceramic ones with the foot platforms with the ridges or sometimes simple wood ones, and i've also seen in serbia even simpler ones that are just a triangle hole in a concrete slab floor with a deep pit under it (i used one in a town in eastern serbia called Despotovac)
