2023-11-25 20:30:03Present day society is fucked. It’s obvious and frustrating. For a long time, I viewed technology as detrimental to the population’s psyche. I formed the perspective that society is beyond saving and had no optimism for the future. Cancel culture, dirty politics, and human beings stepping over one another for the “upper-hand”. I, the “normie”, met and married my soul mate, the “pleb” and a lot of my misconceptions and hypocrisies were revealed. So, any good pleb knows what to do with a normie; slowly and consistently prescribe pills of the orange and purple varieties. The purple pill was a lot smoother going down than the orange one. I have never viewed “fiat” as effective, fair, nor worth pursuing. I subscribe to a greater spiritual law that goes something like, “you can’t keep what you have without giving it away”. It sounds a lot like anti-HODL propaganda and for a long time I believed the two were mutually exclusive. I vaguely understand inflation and how bitcoin can solve the issues associated with fiat’s deterioration. I was simply unable to comprehend how one individual’s wealth preservation through stacking would help anyone else. My time on Nostr and my conversations with other plebs has illumed the sentiment that HODLing is not an act of greed at all, but a sacrifice and a leap of faith into a new system that is inclusive and honest. It’s an example of putting your “money” where your morals are and refusing to subscribe to an oppressive regime. In my country, the government waives fiat in your face like a carat on a stick to ensure and maintain control.
Nostr is proof of societal work in my opinion. My first day on Nostr was perplexing to say the least. There’s exponential intelligence and proficiency amongst their users; therefore, a lot of unintelligible jargon regarding technology, blockchain, and development. My first normie thought was, “I have none of these skills. What on earth can I say that matters here?” I experienced this immature anxiety about posting anything that could be mistaken as idiotic, until I did. What I perceived to be an ignorant message was received with excitement and sound guidance. The Nostr community has proven a sincere desire to grow and benefit each other without expectations of return. I have witnessed several exchanges that may have been misconstrued or “canceled” through other platforms. On nostr, the users take time to educate and forgive in lieu of the public shaming conducted everywhere else. Where I live, when someone commits a crime, they are shunned and thrown in a penitentiary to rot until they are potentially paroled or acquitted. Upon their release, they are typically thrown right back into the same mess where they began, usually without any support or coping mechanisms. I see no value in shaming or judging my fellow man. I believe that we all have the propensity to improve one another through leading by example and sharing what we have learned with unconditional regard. This is what I have witnessed first-hand since joining Nostr. It is almost a utopian society I have always wanted, but could never imagine coming to fruition given what I thought was human nature. Oh boy am I glad I was wrong. Without any lows, there would be no highs. Without my negative experiences within society, I would not be able to thoroughly appreciate the importance of Nostr. Without fiat and shitcoins, I would not be able to understand bitcoin’s greater significance and purpose. So, I am declaring it here first: I have officially been purple and orange pilled.
