In the early 3rd century, during the persecution of Christians under Emperor Diocletian, Donat, a deacon, and Venust, a priest, were arrested in Rome. They refused to renounce their faith and were subjected to brutal tortures. They were scourged, burned with torches, and had their flesh torn with iron hooks. Through it all, they remained steadfast, their faith unwavering. Finally, they were beheaded. Their courage inspired many, and their relics became a source of miracles.
