At this point, I can't see how anyone uses the "you can't absolutely stop spam" argument to discredit the anti-spam argument when it is clear that they are not talking in absolutes and they are presenting a nuanced argument that filters have a real impact.
No one has addressed this point fairly as far as I know.
I've at best heard "you can't stop an economically motivated spammer". Sure, I don't think anyone disagrees, but how does that justify dropping the OP_RETURN limit?
The argument is an admission that you CAN stop the lazy spammer (designed to go unnoticed maybe). So what is your justification for allowing that? (@shinobi)
