It's scary when we have to think about the responsibility we have for the physical well-being of our students.
We had a biggish earthquake here a few years ago, which is very unusual for this area. At that time the department library was right across the hall from my office. Students were piling out of the library and asking me, the only "grown-up" in evidence, what to do. I had no idea! (Now I DO know, and would confidently tell them to exit and move away from the building!)
