Nostr is a generic, unmoderated, and decentralized backend protocol. The reason why Nostr hasn't caught on is because all frontends need to be highly opinionated, moderated, and centralized in order to compete. Nostr developers don't have a lot of strong opinions, they are adverse to high levels of censorship, and they are too scared to use Nostr in a non-compliant way.
I guaruntee that if people start creating actually good websites (that use Nostr) instead of trying to create an actually good Nostr frontend (which is impossible) then Nostr would start doing a lot better.
Of course few people actually have new opinions, especially people who think a lot about Nostr. The next person or hundred people who make a cool and fun forum will not be Nostr users. But maybe that 101st person will see us and say "wow, these complete losers actually have a protocol that could be pretty useful for my website!"
