Well I'm a sucker for keeping cardboard boxes around for later re-use, but fabric probably wins here in terms of resources saved. I've made a (really cool) potter's apron out of a couple extra-long pillowcases, a correctly-sized tablet sleeve out of an incorrectly-sized laptop sleeve, etc. and I have altered various of my own clothes, usually because I bought or was gifted something that didn't remotely fit but I wasn't willing to give up on it. I think the record is still a sailing jacket my ex was gifted some 15(?) years ago that I use as a wind-and-rain-proof outermost jacket on my bike now. It was/is way too big for either of us, but that means the sleeves and tail are perfect for body position on a bike.
