During his visit to the White House, German Chancellor Merz presented Trump with the German birth certificate of his grandfather, Friedrich Trump. Interestingly, the Chancellor’s first name is also Friedrich.
Trump’s grandfather was born in Kallstadt, which at the time belonged to the Kingdom of Bavaria, and emigrated to the U.S. in 1885. He became wealthy by operating a restaurant and a brothel for miners during the Gold Rush in the late 19th century, thus beginning the Trump family’s fortune.
