Oh Bloomberg - you silly, silly people. These Generals haven’t won anything in over two decades. Sometimes you have to fire a Fredenhall to find a Patton.
Here are just a few examples from World War 2:
1. Major General Walter Short – Commander of the U.S. Army in Hawaii at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor (December 7, 1941). He was relieved of command shortly after the attack due to failures in preparedness.
2. Admiral Husband Kimmel – While not a general, Kimmel was the commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet and was also removed from his position following Pearl Harbor.
3. Lieutenant General Ben Lear – Replaced in 1943 as commander of U.S. Second Army but remained active in other capacities.
4. Major General Lloyd Fredendall – Infamously relieved of command in early 1943 after the disastrous American defeat at the Battle of Kasserine Pass in North Africa. He was replaced by General George S. Patton.
5. Major General John P. Lucas – Led the Anzio landings in early 1944 but was soon replaced due to his overly cautious approach.
