you know what sux ? that while that which is above mediocrity is impressive, that which is truly exceptional is taken for granted.
for example if i race you in the swimming pool you will be impressed by how i destroy you. but nobody is impressed by Michael Phelps because it is taken for granted that he is a fish.
or if i race you in my car you will again be impressed by how i destroy you, but nobody is impressed by a dragster that accelerates to 60 mph in under one second, because that is taken for granted.
this is a problem because i feel like the audio system i am designing will fall into that category of being too good for anybody to care.
and this is known to science - basically mids are hyper jealous of each other - but don't really care about those of us who walk on clouds, because they know they aren't in competition with us.
this is the real reason why there are no good headphones on earth. i could design one easily. but nobody would care because the entire industry depends on people believing they are inching towards perfection. if you blow by perfection by a mile everybody just loses all interest.
i mean imagine if Michael Phelps shows up to a high school swimming meet ? everybody will just go home.
great marketers understand this. this is why Harley Davidson uses WW2 era technology. HD has the engineering muscle to go head to head with the likes of Ducati, BMW and Honda - but they use WW2 tech because that's what sells. the mystique so to speak.
it is the same with everything else. you can't make things look too easy. if you can effortlessly do what everybody else considers impossible nobody will be like "wow you're amazing" instead you will just be banned.
i always wipe the floor with everybody on every forum and platform and people just stop talking to me. i devalue people with my very existence. because i exist they are irrelevant and they know it - so they pretend i don't exist.
it happened over and over and over again.
my fear is that the sound system i am designing will be so good that exactly the same thing will happen again. people will pretend it doesn't exist because to acknowledge that it exists would be to acknowledge that the entire audio field is a joke because it never produced anything even remotely close.
this is probably why no competent designers ever release good speakers or headphones. they have to keep the mystique alive. marketing is everything. engineering is too easy.
i mean think about it - why is it that with computers they get better all the time but with headphones they keep sucking ? because they know they can keep improving computers for a LONG time but headphones are already so close to perfect that they need to really pace themselves to leave room for future improvement.
get it ?
