Frank Lloyd Wright also worked with organic modernism. The spiral corridor that wraps around the central space of the main hall of the Guggenheim Museum (1959) in New York, makes the space seem to rise upward in constant motion, a characteristic of post-war modern architecture.

This connection with the viewer was unique,
the static axis of the old building was gone, and the building became something we could circle around from all sides.

The Guggenheim Museum features a skylight dome 28 meters above the ground floor, connecting the interior to nature and outdoor lighting. It features a single spiral ramp, which not only serves as a means of access from one level to the next, but also represents the museum's entire exhibition area. Wright had several reasons for justifying the large spiral space.

First, visitors had to take the elevator to the top of the museum and then slowly descend the continuous ramp to view the artworks with minimal fatigue. Secondly, the solid walls of the ramp, which formed the building's outer shell, sloped outwards to create what Wright was aiming for: a continuous easel-like surface for a more enjoyable display of paintings.

Finally, Wright justified his nonlinear spatial design by borrowing it from the Guggenheim Museum's founder, who believed that the straightness of a painting frame suited the nature of the frame more than the painting itself. No painting could replace the experience of walking up the grand ramp, and Wright relied on the force of gravity to help propel the visitor through the museum, adding an unexpected sense of movement.

The original paintings take on secondary importance when displayed in this giant spiral, where they must compete with the ever-changing views of the central space and the dramatic way in which the people themselves circulate.

The three-dimensional effect of this spiral ramp, with its unprecedented vertical continuity, created one of the most fluid and dynamic interiors of the 20th century.
