Several officials appointed by President Trump to the Library of Congress were escorted out by security this morning, days after Trump abruptly removed Dr. Carla Hayden from her post as Librarian of Congress — a role she had held since 2016.
Trump announced he would nominate his former defense attorney and current Deputy Attorney General, Todd Blanche, as her replacement. However, members of Congress pushed back, insisting the Library falls under the authority of the Legislative Branch and that the President lacks the power to dismiss the Librarian unilaterally. Congressional leaders have stated that Blanche’s appointment is not final.
