Many open source devs don't care about "saving the world" or grander narratives - and they don't need to: They build a thing that solves a thing and they just put it out there for people to use if they want to. And that makes sense and is totally fair.
I think I was mostly talking to people who see "open*" as more of a grander project, who claim that open source will bring "freedom" (whatever that means in that specific case) But maybe I should have been a bit more specific. It was just a late night brain fart of sorts so maybe it wasn't too well thought out
