if the monitor is on, it's a distraction, i don't need a status indicator to tell me that it's on when it is literally showing an image, it's just dumb UX
when it's off, i don't want it lighting up the room
so it only makes sense to alert you that it's in standby, in which case most monitors will blink and that's much more noticeable
