It's true, most other monies had some other purpose and people found value in them as money. But Bitcoin skipped that step and was purpose built as money.
And if you leave the door open to other use cases the shitcoiner and banking rats start to flood in to try and disrupt and destroy it. So yeah, we closed that door, and then this loony guy from the military looked like he was trying to open it again. I think what he got was the prudent response of GFY from people who'd seen that movie before. Not to mention the knee jerk response from libertarians who just irrationally hate violence.
But I think in his case it is different, because when you apply Power Projection Theory, which is actually the main body of his thesis, to Bitcoin, I started to see the underlying reasons for why Bitcoiners do the things they do to defend the network very clearly, and how they can do it better. And you don't get that laid out so clearly anywhere else.
