Now that we have SO MUCH stimulus it seems natural that we haven't caught up to understanding the various conditions that exist because of it.
Depression is an example where I think it's widely accepted that it's a protection mechanism and a symptom.
Problem is, often times the way our society is built, most of us find it hard to do what's best for ourselves when often times the answer is obvious.
Exhausted? Drop what you're doing, rest, sleep - duh!
Overwhelmed, depressed? Drop what you're doing, meditate for an hour a day, journal, go to bed early - duh!
"But I'm a shift worker, and I have kids to pickup from school, I have to get groceries, I have to do laundry, I have to cook dinner, etc etc etc"
It's really hard to go against the grain of society, we all have to survive in it, at the end of the day.
The freedom to perform adequate self care is a privlage many of us have not attained yet.
