I recently read "I Who Have Never Known Men" (1995) Jacqueline Harpman
This is rather like a Samuel Beckett. It deals with themes of isolation, friendship between women, and coming of age.
It's a very stark and depressing story. I went into it thinking "oh sci-fi by a woman lemme read that" so I didn't get exactly what I was expecting making me a little unhappy with the dour tone of the story.
I think it's an important story. I would have liked it if I read it as a teen.
