2023-01-20 08:58:44this use of "fork" is a bit of a misnomer propagated by github. historically, a fork was a long term fracturing of a development community (often in response to poor stewardship of a project or hostile corporate takeover) rather than a short term diff or working branch intended to be upstreamed. language changes, but i think it's worth remembering the roots of this word.
