I've noticed from the comments here that there are quite a few Monero supporters on Nostr as well. I've had some thoughts I've wanted to share with the Monero community for a while now, and seeing this discussion gave me a good opportunity to finally put them into writing. It ended up being longer than expected, so I’ve written it in long-form.
To those Monero supporters who are already well aware of the issues discussed in this piece and continue to support the project regardless — I don’t have much to add. But for those who may not be fully aware of these technical limitations and have committed, or are considering committing, a significant amount of money based solely on the idea that Monero offers strong privacy, I hope this serves as a chance to take a step back and think things through more carefully.
