I’ve submitted a proposal to address the issue. Upon investigation, I discovered that the first node is being added multiple times to the publication_tree. This causes that in the function tryMoveToNextSibling() the two first "siblings" are actually the same creating a loop where the "target" is always the first node.
My fix doesn't solve the root cause of the duplication, since I haven't really figured out where they're coming from. But I hope it helps for now.
PS: This is my first time using ngit, I used a random pubkey.
