CivKit Alpha Released with P2P Order Book, Escrow and PGP Chat for Trades (1 min) CivKit, a decentralized P2P trading platform, has released its first version with features such as a p2p order book with escrow over the Lightning Network and PGP chat for trades. The project is funded by people in the global south to address their specific needs. The Civkit Node offers a user interface to create and manage P2P orders, including creating buy and sell orders, chat with trading partners, and view available offers. A custom Nostr event type shares orders across Nostr relays, creating a global order book. An escrow system generates BOLT11 invoices, holding 5% of the trade amount in a hold invoice released upon trade completion. The alpha release also includes a demo PGP chatroom with basic functions and an API that uses c-lightning and a PGP chat app to handle payment functions for P2P trades. Future plans include releasing the alpha version of the Civkit reputation system, federating the order book and escrow with Fedimint, and adding eCash support. The project's repositories are available on GitHub.

Bitcoin Optech Newsletter #307 (7 min) The latest newsletter discusses a draft BIP (Bitcoin Improvement Proposal) for a quantum-safe address format. Developed by Hunter Beast, the proposal suggests assigning version 3 segwit addresses to a quantum-resistant signature algorithm. Details on potential algorithms and their expected on-chain size are provided, with further discussions needed for the choice of algorithms and specific implementation details.
Additionally, the newsletter covers the Bitcoin Core PR Review Club's summary, highlighting a PR (Pull Request) by TheCharlatan. This PR aims to improve startup time when a user restarts their node before an ongoing reindex has completed. By avoiding the wiping of optional indexes during restart, the node can start more efficiently, aligning the behavior of optional indexes with that of required indexes.
New releases and release candidates for popular Bitcoin infrastructure projects are mentioned: Core Lightning 24.05, which includes improvements for better compatibility with pruned full nodes and various stability enhancements, and Bitcoin Core 27.1, a maintenance release containing multiple bug fixes.
