@ Antinous the Gay God
2025-02-24 08:25:23
🪷 Pensive looking #Antinous striding with his left foot forward like an Egyptian pharaoh or god.
This statue, now in the #Alexandria Museum, was found at the bottom of the sea where it had been deposited by a tsunami that destroyed #Herakleion and #Canopus. Antinous and Hadrian had spent happy days in Herakleion and Canopus before #Antinoos died in October of 130 AD. In February of 131 AD, grieving Hadrian returned to Canopus. Perhaps he commissioned this statue then: https://antinousstars.blogspot.com/2025/02/grieving-hadrian-returns-to-canopus.html 🪷
