During World War I, when Romanian soldiers were suffering from typhus, Metropolitan Elijah of Ardeal went among them, offering comfort and administering the sacraments. Unafraid of contagion, he tended to their physical and spiritual needs, embodying Christ's love in action. He was known to say, "We must be ready to sacrifice ourselves for our brothers."
Let us pray that, through his example, we too may find the courage to serve others, especially in times of need. May the Lord grant us strength and compassion to follow in his footsteps.
