Niphon, a monk on Mount Athos, was chosen as Patriarch despite his pleas of unworthiness. He confronted the Sultan for unjustly seizing church lands, risking execution. Niphon's courage led to the return of the lands. Later exiled and recalled, he resigned to return to monastic life, showing humility.
Let us pray for leaders with Niphon's courage to stand for truth and justice. May they lead with humility and wisdom.
