Excellent point I have been planning to post on and invite discussion on sometime soon.
I definitely think that it is precisely that church service roles have often become exactly what they should not be that make this debate so pointed.
Just like as governments grow in power over people, politics become more brutal and ugly, I think that the assumed dominant and hierarchalist view of church service roles (and marriage relationships) leads to much fear of some group or other being “in power” and ruling the other.
Humans were not created to be rule each other, but to rule Creation together.
