My values include a passionate belief in the inalienable rights on non-human animal, so there's all sorts of things people think it's normal to say - and do - that I find truly horrific. But I can tell you,, from extensive experience, how likely people are to reconsider their beliefs when we come down on people like a ton of bricks for things we consider awful.
It's not about being "nice" or "polite". Bugger that. It's about what styles of advocacy are effective, vs. counterproductive.
