According to Barak Ravid of *Axios*, new details have emerged about a meeting last Saturday between U.S. President Donald J. Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Sources familiar with the matter say the meeting had been proposed in advance, but Zelensky’s advisors were cautious due to how their previous encounter in Washington unfolded. Though described as a “chance” meeting, Zelensky used the opportunity to urge President Trump to adopt a tougher stance on Russia, arguing that Vladimir Putin would not agree to a ceasefire framework unless the United States applied greater pressure. Zelensky also advocated for a previous ceasefire plan that Russia had rejected. While sources say Trump appeared receptive to some of Zelensky’s points, it's unclear how committed he is, as the administration has taken little concrete action to increase pressure on Russia since the discussion.
