yeah i have been training him with the trigger "scratch" and putting cheesy treats on top of the scratching post and he now just goes to it to scratch and if i say scratch he runs over to it and looks at the top of it to see if i left a treat and then starts scratching on it, it's very easy to associate things and places with words and the expectation of pleasure
stopping bad behaviour is different though, you have to make the bad vibes dissociate, that's why the water pistol or other spray gun is required
i will do the same thing once i start seeing him cable bothering, i'll set up the approved shoelace nearby the scratching post and put treats under it and teach the "snakey" trigger word
cats are easy to train, but teaching aversion without associating yourself with it can be a bit challenging
i don't mind if he shreds the rug he was playing with this morning either, it's my rug, and they aren't very expensive anyway, just a heavy woven coarse cotton thing
