nostr just simplifies this part of it instead of prescribing an interconnect protocol, and this is what "outbox model" does, it makes it so you push and pull events to users designated relays, which can be their own

you could do it even easier on a LAN and it would be possible to create one that uses tor hidden services because those work already p2p
