Either this is very poorly written and it's leaving out relevant details or it's whitewashing unjust lawfare by the outgoing administration. It is very unlikely Mr. Leo Schwartz is leaving out details that would further justify the CFPB's regulatory action.
A settlement means it did not go to trial, but the context is this was a court proceeding and the agreememt would have approval by a judge. A real judge wouldn't allow the government to use its unlimited prosecutorial and regulatory power to pressure businesses into one-sided agreements based on weak arguments and false accusations.
All I get out of this article is both the administration and the justice system is corrupt and useless.
