The White House today placed more than 100 National Security Council staff members on administrative leave as part of a restructuring effort led by National Security Advisor and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. NSC Chief of Staff Brian McCormack reportedly sent an email to the affected employees at 4:20 p.m., notifying them that they had 30 minutes to clear out their desks. For those not on-site, the email instructed them to coordinate a time to collect their belongings and return government-issued devices.
This sweeping “restructuring” comes on the heels of the dismissal of former National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and several other officials earlier this month. The moves followed pressure from far-right influencers and senior advisors close to President Trump, who had reportedly raised concerns about the officials’ perceived “disloyalty” or lack of alignment with the administration’s “America First” agenda.
