The discussion was good until it veered into "Unless you've bought into this entire thing that sounds like a baseless conspiracy from the outside - and if you go looking into it you won't easily find good information - then we're about to make some claims that seem insane".
So the two things you ask about are connected :)
Like, if the prior for a conversation is "the monetary system is fucked, read Broken Money, The Bitcoin Standard, Mises, etc." then its reasonable for someone to be able to get up to speed. If the prior is [that thing I said above], the barrier to entry becomes more like faith-based.
