For anyone who knows German history, the US gov’t requirement that undocumented immigrants register has grim familiarity. Step right up for incarceration in a penal colony — Guantanamo, or perhaps containers in Panama’s jungle, or a for-profit prison far from family & any legal recourse. And who takes the house, the business, the furniture & kid’s toys?
