It is only beneficial in a client that allows you to see that relay's feed separately. So Jumble or Coracle would be the main ones.
The benefit it provides is surfacing content you are likely to be interested in, based on how you have interacted with other npubs in the past, but maybe have missed due to it being buried too far down your chronological feed.
Now that you can change the weighting for the algorithm yourself, you get to decide the type of notes it will surface for you. In other words, now the algorithm works FOR YOU, not against you like centralized social media.
