Neither. Early Christians believed it occurred and their goal was to avoid it. Being thrust back into flesh, again separated from God, was not a good thing. They still recognized it as a thing that happened, unless they found the way out, which is Christ.
As for specific texts, that's a deep rabbit hole, and its best if you find it yourself. Its in both canonical and non-canonical. It's one of those things that Christians have strange answers for when you point to the verses. Been there done that, I'm good.
