I see your point, but I disagree, it is not just a client thing... many aspects of Signal privacy is server side.
Another example that has centralised development but decentralised deployment and managed to do better than Email is Matrix protocol.
I am all for decentralised deployment, but decentralised development has very little success history, except when the protocol is simple enough to not need much changes nor is it hard to implement safely.
This is why the web ended up being centralised in development, because it is too damn complex to develop a browser, and your can never ossify it.
I mean, the major Nostr client is already trying to be a Nostr browser, and if it won, it will become to Nostr what Element is to Matrix, what does that tell us?
