I just remembered that I had an online friend in the 2000s who attempted suicide after watching Evangelion five times in a row. He was talking about how Shinji's pursuit of being understood and finding a place to belong (his words) was somehow the driving factor. That was the last conversation I had with him, so I always assumed he actually went through with it. 🫠
