America is evidence that this was not a geographical, climate or even race related cause (as many authors have claimed), but rather an institutional one.
Nowhere have FREE SPEECH and PROPERTY RIGHTS have had more legal protection than in the USA. The 1st and 4th amendments attes it.
The USA industrialised as fast as the British Empire, catching up to it by the 1900s.
France and Spain on the other hand were much slower in the race and their territories in America remained on a pre-capitalist model. There was industry and trade... but capital accumulation was interrupted often and innovation was slowed significantly by interference and theft from kings or politicians. Private property was confiscated far too easily.
