Abu Dhabi (UAE) has participated in the Special Olympics World Winter Games "Torino 2025" with Mina Al Mazroei, a Special Olympics UAE athlete. This participation is a testament to the significant progress made by the Special Olympics UAE in integrating people with intellectual disabilities into society through sports. The selection of an athlete from the Special Olympics UAE, among 1,500 athletes and unified partners from 102 countries participating in the games, is an international recognition of the UAE's strong and consistent support for people with intellectual disabilities, and its commitment to providing them with opportunities and active participation in international events. Talal Al Hashemi, National Director of Special Olympics UAE and Head of the UAE delegation to Torino 2025, said: "Since the Abu Dhabi 2019 Games, we have witnessed a new era of empowerment and excellence for people with intellectual disabilities in the field of sports. We have invested in a strategy to support athletes with intellectual disabilities and have made significant progress in preparing and empowering our children and youth to participate in the Special Olympics UAE. We are all proud, and we are witnessing our athlete Mina Al Mazroei representing her country with the best image, and this achievement reflects the hard work and cumulative training programs that athletes have benefited from." He added: "Mina Al Mazroei's participation in the opening ceremony represents a moment of pride and honor for all Emiratis, and it confirms the country's deep commitment to supporting and empowering people with intellectual disabilities, so that they become an integral part of the country's successes in various fields. The UAE delegation to the Special Olympics World Winter Games includes 30 members, including 11 athletes with intellectual disabilities, and is notable for its participation in the largest number of sports, compared to other delegations from the region, with Emirati athletes competing in 6 sports: alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, figure skating, speed skating, and snowboarding.
