I did it voluntarily for a year once, no running water either. Now? Light and heat, no problem. PV/batteries and kerosene/Aladdin mantle lamp. The PV could power some compute for my geek obsessions. I run local-first... still getting that whole toolchain solid, push all new stuff up to three repos, so offline-mostly isn't a big jump. I have a bunch of books on kindle that are begging for a couple of weeks, but I'd probably just code on my stuff - too much momentum to change that. I have enough food stored, easily, even one of those 30 year cans. A year without power and Internet? I might get to those books. Technically, I have natural gas, so it would be relatively plush. It would be quiet. Even now, sometimes, I'll wander through the house and turn every device, filter, light, fan off. The quiet would be nice.
