I've seen new users follow the instructions from the Addy assistant one. It is more effective than some random person saying "Welcome. Get a wallet so we can zap you" then never replying again.
Overall, I don't think they're bad if they're done well & made clear that they are bots. I've seen plenty new users replying to welcome bots that mimic real profiles to closely, too, which is a negative experience.
Obviously, being welcomed by real people is better, but people tend to say hi and move on. The real dilemma comes with their second note.
