We were in Auschwitz in 2017 and when we went through the 'gas chambers' I asked our tour guide if these were the actual gas chambers and he replied,
"No they aren't, the Germans destroyed them to hide evidence, what we're standing in are replicas."
Then he walked us over to a huge pit with a bunch of broken up cement & rubble and said, "Right there, this is all that remains of the original gas chambers".
I looked at my husband and rolled my eyes...
