2025-05-03 09:41:40Fact checks welcome: Lightning could have been enabled without the Witness Discount because LN only required solving tx malleability by segregating witness data. Proponents of the witness discount say it was supposed to help mitigate UTXO bloat and make things easier for Lightning, but it obviously also opened up Bitcoin to more data storage bloat afaict because it was an effective block size increase.
