I know it sounds fucked up, but I select foreign (particularly Asian) physicians because they've always given it to me straight and bluntly. They may be coding to get paid, but they don't hold back in my experience. And I've had many at this point. I haven't had the same experience with those born in the US. I had GERD really badly some years back and an Asian surgeon (unrelated surgery) told me I was too fat and it would likely go away if I lost weight. My American born primary physician and gastro physician just tossed some PPIs and H2s at me. There seem to be other cultural factors too. At least for me.
