Here's a fun map story: some time ago, when I lived in Leiden, someone from Seattle wanted to visit me. I sent her the famous Bleau map from 1649, pointed out my house (built in 1582, next to the Burcht) and the windmill nearest the train station. She was quite flabbergasted to find that that was enough. Walking from the station to my house, it was the only map she used!
