Damus and Primal each made different tradeoffs in order to get Apple's blessing to be added to the app store.
Primal only allowed their own wallet, with the ability to buy sats directly within the app, and giving Apple their 30%+ cut out of each purchase, but users can zap individual posts by default.
Damus has no built-in wallet, and no way to buy sats directly and give Apple their cut, so they had to have zaps on individual posts disabled by default, so that users could only zap other users' profiles, rather than their posts. There is a workaround by going to https://zap.army and following the instructions there to enable a script that adds zapping of individual posts back into Damus.
It may seem like Damus was the clear winner here, being able to have NWC connected wallets, no 30%+ cut given to Apple, AND a workaround to enable zapping posts directly. However, I can attest to how confused users are when they first start using Damus and they can't zap posts. The AskNostr hashtag is filled with questions from Damus users about why they can't zap people. It's bad UX, but there is nothing that can be done about it, since zapping posts cannot be built into the app without Damus being rejected from the app store.
