I think it's the way the book is written - it seems well designed to be read at whatever pace is desired and actually retained.
you can see it in the below picture: the red dot is for important points (the idea being you can go through the book reading ONLY those points and get the main gist), the bold is helpful for skimming.
so I can imagine that hearing it read aloud you'd get a lot of points reiterated that maybe would have been read differently.
